Antes de ser libres (Spanish Edition) Paperback – April 13, 2004

OMG, one of the best books I have ever read. This was a book that my daughter had to read for school and she told me it was nice. Coming from her, I decided I wanted to read it. I couldn’t put the book down till I finished it.It made me cry thinking of all those people that might have been suffering due to governments like Dominican Republic.Event though this is a realistic fiction story, it really made me think that the author went through something like this.Now, I will buy and read her other books, I can wait!!The lessons my daughter learned by reading this book was a unique one, be thankful of what you have and never stop believing.

This is a perfect learning tool for intermediate Spanish students seeking to improve their sense of ease reading. Level is just challenging and plot, both a political thriller and coming of age story, maintains interest.

As a Latin American woman myself, I felt totally connected to the story, the language is rich, story is fresh and it gives you a feeling that even tough there is so much injustice and cruelty, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, it also gives you an incredible view into how you love your country so much that you are willing to do anything so your children would have a better tomorrow. I absolutely would have my daughter when she turns 14 read this book, I think it would be great reading material for a teenager.

I set up a kid's 'little free library' during the pandemic when all the kids were doing virtual learning. One of the local kids asked for books in Spanish & I realized my neighborhood had a hispanic community that would benefit from this. So glad I could order these through amazon

I just loved this book! It arrived fast, but the best of all the story. What an amazing story.

Me resulta un poco difícil aceptar que un libro en Kindle tenga practicamente el mismo precio que un libro impreso, pero sea cual fuere la forma que llegue a tus manos creo que vale la pena leerlo. Las historias normalmente son escritas a traves o de o sobre sus protanonistas, pero este libro se sale de esa tendencia: habla de como una niña de escasos 12 años vive los finales de una de las dictaduras mas sangrientas en la historia de los pueblos americanos, la del dictador dominicano Rafael Trujillo. A mi, particularmente, me ha conmovido al punto de soltar lágrimas al final de su lectura.

As a returned peace corps volunteer from the Dominican Republic, I never tire of hearing about this beautiful country with such a difficult past. I am a huge fan of Julia Alvarez. Her writing captures you and takes you into her space.

I read this to help my espanol, but loved the story as well. The level is about right for an intermediate Spanish reader. The story is personal but based on historical events, so it is educational as well as heart-warming. I liked it enough to send the English version to my 13 year-old neice and her mother.

I'm learning Spanish. I thought this would be a great book to help me consolidate my lessons.Needless to say. I find it useful but my level of Spanish is still very low.However, it was delivered in good shape and on time.
