Some hints on measuring your plate so this will work for you
I bought a set of four Italian handpainted, square shaped, dessert plates at an antique store. I wanted to hang them on my kitchen wall so I bought these.Right out of the package they look really well made and looked like they will be perfect for my needs. The wrap-around tines seemed longer than any other plate holder I had used before so I was happy about that. The gripper area was longer than I had ever seen in the past too... very nice. The springs were tight and looked like they would stay secure a long time. I also liked the fact that the wire part was shaped in such a way that it would hang centered. The problem came when I tried to put it on my plate. I had measured my plates at 8.75 inches but the hanger didn't fit. It didn't even come close to holding my plate safely, it kept snapping off and bending, and this is why....My plate is quite thick, with scalloped edges, and from the back looks more like a bowl shape than a plate shape. It also has a half inch deep stand around the bottom. When I measured it, I only measured the front, straight across the plate... I SHOULD HAVE MEASURED ALL ALONG THE BACK INCLUDING A COMPENSATION FOR THE THICKNESS AND THE CONTOUR.****So learn from my mistake, and take a really hard look at what you are trying to hang. If it is even close to the upper limit of this holder, or has any real shape besides a smooth, soft, shallow curve, get the next size up. The product description should make people aware of this, but it doesn't.Just for fun, I put the plate holder on one of my kitchen (Corelle) plates and it worked just fine with that shape and thickness, so it is great for that size and style, just not so much for the square, thick plates I needed them for.... So, I remeasured the plates from the back this time, reordered, and I'm sure the next larger size will work just fine for me.

Strong and supportive -- choose size carefully
A plate holder is one of those things you never think you're going to need, but suddenly you DO need one, and you read the reviews only to find that they are very, very tricky to purchase. I mean, when people hate a plate holder, they really HATE a plate holder. Go ahead and read some other reviews if you don't believe me.So, after reading all the other reviews, I was on pins and needles waiting for this, my chosen plate holder. Would it be one of the good ones? Or would my 19th century Staffordshire plate crash to the ground or crumble into pieces or somehow meet some other horrible fate as a result of what I would soon realize had been the worst purchase of my life?Well. I love it. Seriously. I never thought I would reach a point in my life where hanging a plate on the wall could bring me such satisfaction, but there it is. I'm happy as a clam. This particular plate holder is very sturdy, but flexible, and I feel very confident that it will hold my plate on my wall for years to come. That said, because the springs are quite strong, be careful in choosing your size. Many complaints are that 10" plates don't fit this holder. The trick is to measure by turning your plate over and measuring the length with a tailor's tape or measuring tape rather than a straight ruler. You have to include the depth of the plate in your measurement or you WILL measure too small. Another reviewer suggested this, and she was absolutely correct. Brilliant. Also, to get your plate to lie flat up against the wall, take a hammer to the hook/hanger before you hang it so that it doesn't stick out of the wall as far. This should keep your plate snug against the wall, even if the hanger happens to hang on the back of the plate instead of the rim.

Just What I Needed
I had a Jubilee plate to hang on my wall and ordered the hangar that said it would fit an 8 inch plate. I t did not work; it would not stretch that far. So, I threw it away and ordered this one. It worked well and secured the plate so I could add it to my collection.

Important measuring tips......
I opted for this over the stick-on type of plate holder because they seem safer, time will tell, but the stories of plates falling with the stick-on type seemed more plentiful. Not a big fan of the holder being visible from the front, but better safe than sorry. Here are a couple of tips on measuring the plate, I may end up ordering the next size because I'm worried about the amount of tension on the springs as this holder barely fit. 1) Use a cloth tape (like a seamstress uses, not a carpenter) to measure the BACK of the plate, this will take into consideration the curve of the plate, don't forget the lip! 2) A rectangular or square plate edge does not curve around the circumference like a circular or oval plate, so you may need to size up. This barely fit my 9" rectangular platter, so if you are in that last inch of sizing, I think I would buy the next size up.

Deluxe Plate Hanger Review By Keith
I purchased these plate holders to hold my expensive Dan Marino Record plate set. I gave this a 4 star review only because they needed to be stretched to the max to hold them so it was difficult to get them on and they put a lot of pressure on my plates. Even though I was scared that long stretch would break my plates, they do work great and are very secure. Another great aspect of these holders is the wall mounting piece. It's made of medal and makes it very secure to the wall. I would defiantly recommend these plate holders to others.
