What a Difference
I've been meaning to write this review for a long time. I've used the plastic water fountains a couple of times and each time, I ended up getting rid of them. After just a few short months, the water fountain would develop a pink slime that was impossible to remove permanently. I would clean it and the next time I cleaned it, the slime was back. It even got into the pump, making it almost impossible to clean. I knew it wasn't safe for my cats and even the cats started refusing to drink from it even if I had just cleaned it. I finally saw this metal version and decided to try one more time. What a wonderful decision. I've been using it for several months now and it has not developed the pink slime and it's so much easier to clean. The pump is a new design which has fewer pieces that have to be removed and no screwdriver required. Each of the pieces fit together easily and I can take it apart and clean it in just a few short minutes. There are a few plastic pieces and even these pieces have not developed the pink slime. I am thrilled with this water fountain and my cats love it. I clean it weekly and change the filters every two weeks and their water says fresh. This fountain is also quiet and the quality is excellent. i highly recommend this water fountain.

Whisker Waterworks
So this is the second style of cat water fountains I have bought from the brand. The first one was plastic, this one is metal.I decided to get a new one because the plastic one was developing a film from the hard water here in AZ. No matter how hard I scrubbed, it wouldn’t go away. I did some research and it seems that metal is better anyways as it’s not porous like plastic so it will overall be cleaner.Few differences from the plastic one - there isn’t a slot for the fountain mechanism, there aren’t drainage holes on the second level that don’t pass through the filter (I actually prefer this), the top of the fountain doesn’t have a regulator for the bubbler (it makes it noisier with running water sounds) and the pump filter has more space to take in water.Overall I like the upgrades. I still hate how hard it is to see the water level - I literally have to put my face right next to it to see if I’m full or not.

Switched from TomXCute - much better!
After using the TomXCute version for a bit, we decided to switch to this cat water fountain based on some reviews we read. Very glad we did!1. Really easy to clean. Stainless is a must for keeping things clean, and this unit doesn't have as many plastic parts and nooks-and-crannies that the tomxcute brand has. That thing would get grimly and take a long time to clean. This model is super simple, and takes no time at all.2. The filtration system seems better. This uses a large filter with dual cleaning, and a filter for the pump. With less areas for bacteria to accumulate, it seems like these filters last a long time too.3. Very quiet. Can't hear it at all. There are some instances where the vibration can cause a sound, but you just move the lid a little and it goes away.Overall, we love this fountain so much we bought two of them. Mainly because its so much easier to clean than the tomxcute brand, and the cats love how the water comes out. Definitely needed when you have a renal kitty!

Functions as expected, but not a perfect design.
35 years of cat experience here. I'd like to address all of the functionality and even some previous reviews to provide the best expectations possible. I have been trying to find ways for my cat to drink more water. She loves drinking from the sink but that is not always an option for her. A fountain seemed to be the best alternative. This is my 4th fountain as I search for the best, and I can say already, that this is not it, but it's not a bad choice either. I'll hit everything as bullets:- The motor makes some noise but not much. More when the water is low. The sound of the water trickling is louder. Depending on the cat, this may be too much noise. Still too early to tell for my cat. I have seen her opt for a water bowl in a different room several times instead of this fountain.- The direction of the light on the motor is a non issue, contrary to some reviews. Yes, it's facing the wrong way, but it does not matter. Turn the motor with the wire facing the correct way, and the light still illuminates the opening.- The filter is bigger than most, but just sits there. There are cracks around the edges water can get through easily. This makes it more important to replace the water every day. The filter is just for food pieces, saliva, and fur.- The pan is 2 pieces. One for the drinking, and one below to hold the filter. It's a strange design, and frankly a bit inconvenient when cleaning. There is no ledge to lift it when picking it up, so you have to be careful as the two pans do not fasten to anything either.- The tube water is pulled from is plastic. Strange choice as this is the place mold will grow the most aside from the motor.- Cleaning: people tend to complain about how frequently they have to clean these fountains. It's your cat's water bowl. Clean it. Put some effort in your cat's health. A thorough clean at least once a week (for one cat) is all it needs and you're good. Change the filter at least once a week (for 1 cat) and give it fresh (preferably pre filtered water) every day. All of these fountains take some effort to clean and properly maintain, it's just part of it. No way around it, but it's for your cat's health.- The 360 spout was a change for me, and I haven't seen a difference in behavior from my cat because of it yet.All this said, I have had this fountain for a few days now, so it's a bit early to tell if it makes a difference for my cat. Everything else, cleaning, functionality, etc., I'd rate this in between most stainless steel fountains. Not the worst, not the best, but it was as I expected it to be given the design.
